Fill out the form below for a chance to win (2) tickets the SEVEN LIONS & AUDIEN show at The Stage this Friday, April 22nd.
We got to sit down with Stephen Segura from Open Curtain Productions and Redfish Entertainment to talk about what to expect this weekend for Halloween 2015 in Downtown Albuquerque. He also gave us Viva La Dead tickets to give away so be sure to Enter to WIN TODAY!
How many years have you put on Viva La Dead, and what is going to make this years version better?
Stephen: This will be my sixth year doing Viva la Dead, which originated in 2010. Viva started as a special event taking over hotels and transforming them into haunted dance parties. We did.
We heard it is a block party. What does that mean and where is it located?
Stephen: Yes, we gave it the block party title to try and lessen confusion as to the venue. It just means, it’s on the street in the heart of downtown, and we’re building the infrastructure from the ground up! We couldn’t find a venue that was equipped with all we need to make this happen at the tier we envisioned, so we’re just going to build it.
We’re erecting a 45-foot stage, the largest the Stage Line manufacture has. These badboys are made for events of this stature. We can rig so much tech on to this thing… and we are. We’re using every square inch with 1st class sound and lighting to knock everyone’s socks off. So bring extra socks. The grounds will also hold restrooms, a VIP platform, concessions, medic stations, and fully equipped box office.
Who is performing at this years event and why should people be excited?
Stephen: We have very special talent this year. We have the legendary British group ABOVE & BEYOND is our headliner. Last October, the trio made history: they became the first Brittish DJs to headline New York’s Madison Square Garden and now they’re playing for us! Some of those tickets were going for upwards of $700 each. As MTV puts it, “Even by their sky-high standards ABOVE & BEYOND are currently flying, well, above and beyond.
Will there be access to El Rey Theater after the block party? During?
Stephen: The Historic El Rey Theater will be hosting its own event with Reviva’s Album Release Halloween Party. Reviva is a local talent with the biggest fan base in the state. They are truly exceptional. That being said, El Rey Theater is also hosting the Official After Party to Viva La Dead.
We’re bringing Bijou over after he plays Viva La Dead to continue the fun once the block party has let out! It’s a 21+ event. Once Reviva is finished at 12:15am, Bijou will jump on stage and keep that party funky! If you purchase a ticket to Viva La Dead, you will get half off admission to El Rey Theater!
How do you think Viva La Dead and help spur other similar events in ABQ moving forward?
Stephen: First thing, this will show investors Albuquerque can handle events of this size. We’re a viable market of music lovers and we need to play on that in order to keep folks entertained and to spend their money within the city vs always traveling to get their musical fix. This is tax revenue going right back into the city, that’s helping see this event though. We’re trying to spike energy and excitement back into Downtown ABQ.
The ABQ people are some of the best in the nation. We finally have an event where folks are traveling from out of state in to attend. We have a very good opportunity to showcase the beauty that is ABQ and prove to ourselves, ABQ is awesome and unique! A lot of us know this, but there are those who still have their doubts, and that’s what we want to change.
Is this an all ages event?
Stephen: This event is restricted to guests ages 18 and over for general admission and 21 and over for VIP or to consume any alcohol.
Where can you purchase tickets?
Stephen: Tickets can be purchased direct from the Viva la Dead website at www.vivaladead.com
What other acts will be in the house that night?
Stephen: We also have the legendary Gabriel & Dresden and quick rising start Bijou. G&D were a powerhouse duo from early 2000s who are making a massive comeback with their Open to Close extended sets of all classic dance music. History repeats itself and there’s proof of that with how their music is becoming popular again.
Bijou is a fresh take on dance music, infusing hip hop beats. Best way to describe him is he makes you feel cool. haha. That’s why we want Bijou to open the night. As people are walking in, we want them to just feel positively awesome!
What’s the next big show we should all be on the look out for at El Rey?
Stephen: We are really moving along with the theater, momentum has started, so we’re producing something for everyone each and every weekend. One event that comes to mind is Cashmere Cat and what we have in store for everyone for NYE. We have Borgore coming to play for us on Dec 31st, but shhh… we’re keeping that a secret 😉
What time does everything get started on Saturday?
Stephen: We’re kicking things of promptly at 6pm. Gates will be open and we’ll start the music off right!
Will there be food trucks?
Stephen: There will be food trucks on the streets we have blocked off near the entrance and exits. We’ll also have some in front of El Rey Theater for folks to chow down after they’ve burned calories dancing the night away!
