On Thursday August 28th the Historic El Rey Theatre, was illuminated by rhythmic lights and sounds from the popular EDM music artist, DJ Illenium. Beginning the show at 10 p.m., Albuquerque’s local DJ PRXM took the stage first alongside a live singer. Later, at 12 a.m. Illenium began his two hour set complete with lights, and an effects screen with graphics that corresponded to the music. Looking through the crowd of the theatre, diversity was in high attendance. The young Colorado DJ attracted different ages, cultures and backgrounds. However, as everyone danced and vibed to the many of his signature remixes, it was as if the crowd was united. Illenium is no stranger to the Albuquerque scene. His performance at Effex night club this past spring packed the venue and it was in high demand that he come back to the Duke city, only this time, with a bigger venue. El Rey was complete with a geotag Filter for Snapchat specific to the event and artist, merchandise, as well as enough room to dance and a bar. The night approached a close with his infamous remix to the radio hit “Don’t Let Me Down”- By The Chainsmokers but, with an uproar from his fans for another song Illenium continued the show with two more songs; a Flume remix and a brand new never before heard remix. Illenium has been featured in many of this summer’s hottest music festivals such as EDC, Ultra, and Global. With 216k followers on Sound Cloud, Illlenium’s music popularity is growing and Albuquerque is always supporting!
