ABQ-Live the Magazine has had a significant connection with the bar and restaurant industry since its inception. COVID-19 has has thrown a wrench into everyone’s lives, but service industry employees, we all normally interact with so often, might be stuck in an even bigger limbo than most. We are helping out our local service industry workers with a donation from our taco shirt sales.
ABQ-Live will release the “I Love You, Tacos” shirt to help raise awareness for the Serving NM Fund.
The Serving New Mexico Fund offers financial assistance to restaurant and other hospitality workers facing an unanticipated hardship. The Serving NM Fund is part of the Hospitality Industry Education Foundation a 501 (c) 3 Charitable Organization. https://www.nmrestaurants.org/serving-nm-fund/
Part of the proceeds made from the shirts will be donated to the Serving New Mexico Fund.
The Serving New Mexico Fund is administered by the Hospitality Industry Education Fund (HIEF). HIEF is a non-profit, 501(c)3 charitable organization.
Many hospitality workers in NM have multiple jobs and very little savings so when hardship falls upon them they fall behind. In these trying times we want to do as much as we can for displaced restaurant employees in NM.
This fund will allow NM’s dedicated hospitality workers to apply for small grants to help them get by until this emergency is over.
Due to the COVID-19 Crisis, 7 out of 10 restaurant operators have laid off employees and reduced the number of hours worked.
Roughly 50% more anticipate doing more of this in the next month.
Nationally, the industry has lost more than 3 million jobs and $25 billion in sales since March 1.
Grants may not exceed $250

Since 1946, the New Mexico Restaurant Association (NMRA) has actively represented and promoted the foodservice industry in New Mexico. We represent all foodservice outlets in New Mexico with a membership of over 1000 locations statewide. The restaurant industry statistics in New Mexico show that restaurants employ over 82,000 persons and represents over 2 billion dollars in sales annually.
Our mission is to empower the food and beverage industry by promoting and protecting common values and interests.
We are governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, elected by the general membership at the annual meeting. Directors are selected from members in each of the Congressional districts throughout the state to ensure statewide representation. We have a strong political action committee that is active in both state and national politics. We also offer education and training, member benefit programs and special events targeted to the restaurant industry.
Membership is open to any firm or establishment actively engaged in the foodservice business including purveyors of goods and services to restaurateurs. All regular (restaurant) members of NMRA are automatically members of the National Restaurant Association.
Our vision is through the active participation of our members, NMRA will be the leading advocate and invaluable resource for education, political action, information and services for our industry.
