Who says costumes are only for Halloween? This July 25th, Albuquerque is getting a little spooky, a little wild, and a whole lot more fun with Summerween at Effex Nightclub.
The night kicks off at 4 PM with the Summerween Bar Crawl, giving you and your crew the perfect excuse to get dressed up, grab some drinks, and hit the town before the main event begins at 9 PM. From there, the party continues late into the night at Effex with drinks, dancing, and a costume contest where your creativity could pay off in a big way.
For the main event, bring your best, boldest, and most unforgettable costume for your chance to win a grand prize trip voucher that includes hotel and airfare. That’s right: your costume could help send you on your next adventure. And if you’re joining the bar crawl, don’t hold back because the winner of the Bar Crawl Costume Contest will walk away with a $500 cash prize.
Now comes the most important question: What are you going to wear?

For the girls looking to bring full baddie energy, think glam, confident, and instantly recognizable. Go as a Playboy bunny, a Victoria’s Secret angel, a sexy cowgirl, a rodeo queen, a race car driver, a disco diva, a Y2K pop star, or a glamorous vampire. You could channel a classic movie bombshell, turn a popular character into your own Halloween-inspired version, or create a “hot girl summer gone spooky” look. A little black dress can become a catwoman costume, a white dress can transform you into a glamorous ghost, and a simple red outfit can become a devilish look with the right makeup and accessories.

For the guys, group costumes are the perfect way to make an entrance. Get your crew together and try a cast of classic movie characters, a group of superheroes, the Men in Black, the Hangover crew, Top Gun pilots, the cast of The Wolf of Wall Street, or even a group of vacationing tourists who clearly took a wrong turn. Want something more nostalgic? Bring back the characters everyone remembers from childhood and turn them into your own adult Summerween version.
Classic movies are also a goldmine for funny and nostalgic costumes. Think Mean Girls, Clueless, The Hangover, Superbad, White Chicks, Scooby-Doo, The Addams Family, Grease, Beetlejuice, The Mask, or a throwback horror movie villain. You can recreate an iconic scene, dress as your favorite character, or put a funny twist on a movie everyone knows.
Since we’re celebrating Summerween in Albuquerque, why not add a little local flavor? Take inspiration from New Mexico’s desert landscapes, Route 66, the Balloon Fiesta, Southwestern style, or the city’s unique mix of spooky and colorful culture. Try a “desert ghost,” a haunted hot air balloon crew, a spooky New Mexico tourist, an alien who landed in Albuquerque, or a glamorous Southwestern cowgirl. You could even create a Breaking Bad-inspired group costume with a funny Summerween twist or dress as a mysterious desert traveler who has clearly been partying a little too long.

And if you’re looking for something cheap and easy, don’t worry. Some of the best costumes can be made with things you already have at home. Grab a white sheet and become a classic ghost, throw on sunglasses and a Hawaiian shirt for a tourist, wear all black for a mysterious character, or use everyday clothes and a few accessories to create a recognizable movie or pop culture look. You can also make a simple costume around a funny sign, a pun, or a clever idea that doesn’t require a big budget.
Whether you’re planning a show-stopping look, coordinating a group costume, bringing back a nostalgic movie favorite, or putting together a last-minute DIY costume, Summerween is your chance to get creative and have some fun with it.
Gather your friends, pick your costume, and get ready to see who can take home the $500 cash prize or the grand prize trip voucher with hotel and airfare.
This July 25th, Albuquerque is celebrating Summerween the only way we know how: dressed up, out late, and ready to party.
The question is: What will you wear?
