Great Scott! Today is the actual date Michael J Fox’s Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd’s Doc Brown traveled to in the hit 80’s futuristic film, Back to the Future II, now look at all the cool stuff we get!
Many corporate entities who were involved in the film have jumped on board, recognizing the now iconic date of 10.21.2015, and are releasing products that were featured.
Below are three of those products and one incredible user-made mashup of the Adult Swim hit show Rick and Morty, which has inherent similarities to the Back to the Future story.
While there is still no actual Hover-board (Come on science!), we do have self-lacing shoes and of course Marty’s sweet black Toyota.
1. Toyota has fully unveiled its 2016 Tacoma inspired by the pickup truck used by Marty McFly in Back to the Future Part II.
I was in love with the all black truck Marty had in his garage. I guess I wasn’t the only one!
For more information on the Tacoma: http://www.leftlanenews.com/toyota-unveils-back-to-the-futureinspired-tacoma-90014.html#ixzz3pFCGUVSR
2. Back To The Future’s Self-Lacing Nikes Are Finally Real!
Hopefully we can get this bad boys in different colors. I don’t know if I can rock the Denver Nugget blue for too long. Expected release date Spring 2016.

3. Pepsi Perfect
Wait, Pepsi wasn’t perfect already? Sounds like they may have already sold out of this sweet product. Lame.
For more information on Pepsi Perfect:
4. Rick and Morty user made mashup.
With the already ever present resemblance to Back to the Future this makes so much damn sense. Great work!

Local artist Leah Leyva released a music video covering the song “House of the Rising Sun,” originally performed by The Animals. Every aspect of the video was created locally. Leah talked about it on her Facebook page:
“This music video is 100% local!! How awesome is that?! Local cast, crew, location, recording artist, and even a local record label! This cast and crew was literally a bunch of young and up and coming New Mexican filmmakers! We are the next generation of crazy movie people. Let’s show everybody how bad ass ABQ is!!”
Check out the video below, and the article we at ABQ-Live the Magazine featured Leah in issue #7.

Strength In Her Roots
By Joshua Cain VanLandingham
Twenty year-old Albuquerque native, Leah Leyva has been singing as long as she can remember. After auditioning for the TV series American Idol, you wouldn’t think she would have ever battled extreme stage fright, but for a period of time she did. She went to film school, did beauty and stage makeup on several indie/ student films, and directed many of her own short films/music videos. Film helped her define herself as an artist and led her back to her musical roots with confidence.
“It’s still a HUGE part of my life. I have what I like to call creative visions, just images that swirl through my head and once they’re there I have to create them! Very soon I will most definitely be directing/ producing/starring in a new music video!”
Family is Leyva’s biggest influence. “My family are wonderful people, and they are so incredibly supportive of what I do.” Leyva’s father, Moses is her “music mentor” and a phenomenal guitar player himself. They play and write music together while her mother takes on the manager role for Leah, always giving her critiques and advice. Her grandmother was a blues singer and you can hear that influence boom through on Leah’s cover of Corinne Bailey Rae’s ‘Put your records on’ which you can find on Youtube. Another tremendous influence on Leyva is her sister Rebekah, a flamenco dancer currently living in Spain. “Her fire and determination to be the artist she aspires to be is so inspiring to me. She works so hard! And never stops!”
Leah took her talents to Salt Lake City this summer to try and compete on American Idol. After a grueling 4-month process just to get an audition, she made it through the first two rounds, only to be cut after the third. The 4th round would have been in front of the famous panel of judges. Even though she was turned away, Leah looks back on it as a wonderful experience. “It was the biggest audition of my life thus far and just getting up in front of those producers and giving them all I got was a beautiful opportunity!”
What is up next for Leah? Leyva and her father are currently working on an album, but until then you can find her on basically every social media outlet available, SoundCloud, Youtube, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, and LinkedIn. “I am a social media freak!” She so aptly puts it. Leyva also has a film coming out soon called Espiritu, a horror/experimental film that looks inside the mind of someone going through an exorcism. She is also gearing up to shoot a couple of music videos for two songs off her new album. Performing live shows is a passion of hers and as soon as she turns 21, she will be booking shows as often as possible. Leah plans on staying an independent artist and looks to follow in the footsteps of performers like Macklamore, who has given hope to independent artists all over the world with his success. With her talent, drive, and support system we wouldn’t be surprised to see Leah surpass all of her goals.

Marissa Ricci, a UNM Nursing student and native ‘Burqueno’ has some interesting things to say about expectations in your early 20’s, insecurities, and how it’s all going to be OK. Check out her blog post below.
The expectations of your early 20’s are like the expectations of trying vegan pizza and hoping it tastes like the cheesy, delicious, dairy-packed, real deal it was intended to be. In both instances, the reality and your expectations of what it was supposed to be, never really do line up.
At 23 I have never felt so happy, free, confused and lonely all the at the same time (Thank you, T swift.) These years come with what seems like never-ending nights of feeling invincible, followed by mornings of regret and reality. You are still young, but not young enough to not know better. It’s reasonably acceptable to go to work with last night’s makeup, though you are held to the standard of getting your ass there on time and having to be a semi-functional member of society.
You get the point.
Your early 20’s are the less chubby (hopefully) version of your middle school awkward stage. You are stuck somewhere between kid and adult. You might still sit at the kid’s table for family events, but you sure as hell better have graduated and are currently holding a steady job.
Confusing shit, let me tell you.
Oh, mixed up between the engagement pictures, baby announcements and drunk “I swear I didn’t look like that before I left the house” photos plastered over social media. Yay 20’s. Progressing through feeling like you’re running in place. This part is the hardest. Stuck between the “only one drink tonight and ending up shit faced” you and the “time to get your shit together” you.
Early twenties, yes it also is something beautiful.
I have done some amazing growth these last 3 years. I’ve had my heart broken, drank too much (way, way too much), failed, achieved, stepped out of my comfort zone, learned, got fat, fell in love, got fit, picked myself up again, and most importantly evolved. I have come to a crossroads and acceptance with who I was, who I am and who I am meant to be.
Learning to fall and rise. Take each day at a time. Falling in love with the happy, free, confused and lonely feelings that tend to hit me all at once. The truth is even if no one likes me at 23, you know what I am starting to find out?
