This world is full of bad news. Local television stations and national news chains have been bombarding us with negative news day in and day out, so it can get a little hard to look on the bright side. Despite how many terrible things may be happening in the world today, never forget that there are always positive points to bring back our faith in the human race.

So here’s some good news, for once, to lighten up the dark tones of today’s society. Turns out, we really aren’t all that bad.

1. A Colorado dad who found himself homeless received kindness from strangers to get back on his feet gives back

Here’s some heartwarming news for anyone to enjoy, with twice the opportunity to find joy in the human experience. This father had found himself down on his luck and received an amazing response from absolute strangers from all over the country, who raised around $50,000 for him and his son to get back on their feet. Now catching up with this compassionate  dad, he’s doing much better and he’s also doing good, in the hometown hero sense. The man who was once homeless and hopeless, with the help of strangers is now giving back to those whose shoes he once wore. Volunteering with a local organization, he was seen out feeding the homeless and giving back to the community. How’s that for some inspiration, especially around the holiday season. People really can grow from seeds of kindness, so be kind to someone today.

People tend to underestimate the younger generation in terms of their capacity for selflessness and generosity, but this Washington high school has proven that even rotten high schoolers can be kind. They have organized a food pantry to support their fellow students and their families who are going through hard times or can’t afford to eat. This is an act of selflessness and community to inspire any age group.

This is one of the sweetest sentiments that hits hard for a lot of people. Appreciation for those who work hard is one of the simplest acts of kindness that many of us tend to overlook or forget about. Sometimes the happiest parts of life are simple, and unassuming. If you’re having a hard time finding something positive in the world, maybe take a little time to look at the smaller joys in life that actually mean a lot.

5. Elderly man calls in to BBC morning show because he is lonely, gets overwhelming kindness from listeners.

One thing we can all relate to on some level is feeling lonely. This 95 year-old man called in to BBC’s Alex Dyke morning show because he felt just that, lonely. His beloved wife had been placed in a nursing home, and as he explains, when you get older, people just don’t seem to have time to visit. So, graciously, the radio station decided to invite him to the station to have some coffee and some conversation. He obliged, and listeners from all over called in to ask him to lunch, or to talk, and left us all with a wonderful sentiment; no matter how lonely you feel, you’re never alone in life.

The only way to make the world a better place, is by starting with our own lives and communities. Smile today, and spread some kindness, it could have a bigger impact than you could ever imagine.
