In the heart of Albuquerque, a blossoming revolution is underway within the cannabis industry, and pushing it steadily forward are Adria Mooney and Kelsey Kam, two of three visionary minds behind Flowers & Herb Markets.

As we honor Women’s History Month, it’s essential to recognize the profound impact of women like Adria and Kelsey, who are not only breaking barriers but also cultivating a vibrant community centered around cannabis and wellness.

The journey of Flowers and Herb Markets began with a desire to give back to the community during the tumultuous times of the pandemic. Adria and Kelsey, who had previously collaborated on a project, shared a passion for cannabis and a vision to establish a dispensary that transcended stereotypes. “We wanted to create a space where people could take their time, mosey around, and enjoy the atmosphere before buying,” Adria reflects. The two imagined a welcoming environment where individuals, especially women, felt empowered to explore and learn about cannabis without judgment or intimidation. With Kelsey’s expertise in floral arrangements and Adria’s deep-rooted connection to cannabis, they aimed to create a space that blended the natural beauty of flowers with the healing properties of cannabis, setting the stage for a truly unique experience.

The feedback they’ve received from women has been overwhelmingly positive. “We get
constant amazing feedback. They appreciate the welcoming atmosphere and feel comfortable bringing their families,” Kelsey shares. F&H Markets has become more than just a dispensary; it’s a community hub where individuals, regardless of background or gender, feel supported and valued. Adria and Kelsey have succeeded in curating a space that fosters connection and curiosity, where customers can engage in meaningful conversations without feeling pressured to make a purchase. “It’s so beautiful, and I feel so comfortable here,” one customer remarked. The shop has blossomed into a haven where people from all walks of life can gather, learn, and connect. Adria and Kelsey’s dedication to inclusivity and authenticity has not only cultivated a loyal customer base but has also ignited a movement within the cannabis community.

Navigating the male-dominated cannabis industry hasn’t been without its challenges, but Adria and Kelsey have found strength in the community of women within the industry. “We were shocked to see how many powerful women are part of this industry on so many levels,” Adria notes. By amplifying women’s voices and perspectives, F&H Markets is making cannabis more accessible and inclusive for everyone.

Their commitment to community extends beyond the walls of the dispensary. F&H Markets hosts a variety of events, from burlesque shows to mental health discussions, providing a safe space for individuals to connect and share their experiences. “A lot of our community events are focused around stigmatized topics like psychedelics, mental health, nonmonogamy” Adria elaborated. They emphasized the importance of having an environment where people can come to be themselves, connect, and talk about these things and not feel ashamed. The events are curated mainly by women. “We empower women by facilitating their visions,” Kelsey explains. Through their community events and collaborations with women-owned businesses, Adria and Kelsey are paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive cannabis industry.

As they look to the future, Adria and Kelsey, along with their third business partner, James
DiPadua, are focused on expanding their product offerings and continuing to support their
community. From developing innovative products like the “Sexy Spliff”, a joint with a blend of cannabis and natural herbs, to nurturing partnerships with local entrepreneurs, F&H Markets is poised for growth and impact. “Our goal is to make more products that are representative of those we serve,” Adria emphasizes.

In a rapidly evolving industry, Flowers & Herb Markets remains steadfast in its commitment to authenticity, community, and empowerment. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, let us honor the pioneering spirit of women like Adria Mooney and Kelsey Kam, who are shaping the future of the cannabis industry in New Mexico and beyond. Through their vision, passion, and unwavering commitment to community, they are paving the way for a more vibrant, inclusive, and empowered cannabis industry for generations to come.
