ABQ-Live sat down with Nathan Davis of Hi I’m Ghost for an exclusive interview to talk about music, tour, and much more!
ABQ Live: Welcome to Albuquerque, how’s the 505 been treating you?
Nathan: It’s been good! I got here earlier today, got to check out Old Town and walk around, I’m excited to be here for the first time!
ABQ Live: We love hosting artists for their New Mexico Debut. I know you’re smack dab in the middle of a tour with Barely Alive at the moment.
Nathan: Yeah, it’s kind of weird not being on tour with Barley Alive tonight.
ABQ Live: How was the first half of the tour with him?
Nathan: It’s been amazing, he’s a great guy. We’ve been doing really well. I think we’ve sold out 12 shows in this tour so far!
ABQ Live: I know you have some BIG shows coming up; Chicago, LA, and New York. What city are particularly looking forward to performing in?
Nathan: The two shows next week, in Chicago & LA are the two I’m most excited about.
ABQ Live: I did receive a little snippet of a new song that’s dropping very soon, Bleed! Tell me a little more about that, How was it working with Qoiet?
Nathan: So we have been friends for probably 7 years, and we became friends through Magic the Gathering. We did make a song together about 5 years ago that never got released, but we’ve been working on this one for about a year. It was supposed to come in January, but unfortunately, our accounts got hacked and we had to put it off, but I’m excited that we finally get to put this song out! Everybody loves it, I’ve been closing out with it for the past 6 months.
ABQ Live: Going back to tour, tell me some more things about it. I know you’re on the road all the time, and we’re always listening to you, but who do you listen to?
Nathan: I’ve been listening to a lot of new music! LeGrand, Mr. Kitty, Hoodie Allen, Games We Play, Depeche Mode, there are a lot of them.
ABQ Live: Continuing on that, what streaming service do you use for your music?
Nathan: I use apple music!
ABQ Live: Albuquerque has a huge mass scene, what else can everybody look forward to during one of your sets?
Nathan: Yes. Hi I’m House. I play things from my new EP that’s coming out later this year, and some of my favorite house songs.
ABQ Live: Who’s one of your favorite house artists?
Nathan: My favorite house artists include Matroda, Chris Lake, and I really enjoy some of Fred Again’s house music. There’s tons of great house music out there!
ABQ Live: I dove into your SoundCloud a bit earlier this week and discovered your 333 mix, where you mixed 333 songs in 33 minutes and 33 seconds. Tell me more about that
Nathan: We’re gonna do another one this year, 222, continue to 111, then after that, it’ll be 666. The 333 mix was a lot harder than I thought. It took a lot longer than I thought it would take me. That’s about 10 songs per minute.
ABQ Live: Do you have anything else cooking for you this year?
Nathan: I’m working on the house stuff, a bunch of singles throughout the year, and a few festivals.
ABQ Live: I know you were at Lost Lands two years ago, and have played other festivals, what’s been your favorite festival experience so far?
Nathan: It’s probably been Nocturnal Wonderland, because I got a trailer and got to hang out there all day. It was great!
ABQ Live: Is there any specific venue you’d love to play at?
Nathan: Red Rocks! It’s my dream venue, I’ve played in front of ginormous crowds, some of the coolest venues in the world, but I really want to play there.
ABQ Live: Do you have any messages for your fans in Albuquerque?
Nathan: I’m excited to play for everybody tonight, I hope you have a fun time, get home safe, and be yourself!
