In early 2023, Jamie Lenfestey and his partner Tim Franke left AMP Concerts with a bold vision to create something new. In an interview, Lenfestey shared how soon after, Joel Aalberts, Executive Director of the Lensic Performing Arts Center (PAC), approached them with an exciting proposal to expand the Lensic’s cultural reach.
Given their long-standing connections to the Lensic—Tim having worked in the box office and Jamie performing in the venue’s first post-renovation show—it was a natural fit. Lenfestey explained how the Lensic transformed the music scene in Santa Fe and had a significant impact on his own career, which is why Lensic 360 felt like a fitting tribute to their shared history. The new initiative was designed to extend the cultural circle across New Mexico, bringing concerts and outreach programs to a wider audience.

Booking New Mexico’s Best
Contrary to what some might assume, Lenfestey emphasized that Lensic 360 doesn’t chase down every artist they present. Much of the programming is pitched by booking agents. “Having worked in the New Mexico music scene for over 30 years, we get calls about almost every artist on tour,” Lenfestey shared. While he and Franke do actively pursue some artists they’re particularly passionate about—such as Digable Planets for their Railyard Series—most of their focus is on selecting artists that are the best fit for each specific market, whether Santa Fe, Albuquerque, or Taos.
Unique Challenges and Rewards of Programming Across the State
New Mexico presents its own unique challenges for concert promotion, Lenfestey noted, quoting former Territorial Governor Lew Wallace: “All calculations based on experiences elsewhere, fail in New Mexico.” Many out-of-state promoters arrive with grand plans, but few manage to stay. Lenfestey attributes Lensic 360’s success to a deep understanding of the local culture, communities, and people. “We’re not just in it for profit,” he said. “It’s about bringing people together through music and shared experiences.” Part of this commitment involves offering extensive free programming—over 50 events in Santa Fe alone—and extending those efforts into Taos and Albuquerque, including events like the free Dia de los Muertos celebration at Fusion Meadow.
Reflecting New Mexico’s Diversity
A core value of Lensic 360 is booking a diverse range of artists that reflect New Mexico’s rich cultural fabric. This year’s *Blossoms & Bones* festival is a testament to that commitment, with an eclectic lineup that includes Inuit singer Elisapie, Ukrainian folk group DakhaBrakha, the retro-soul California Honeydrops, and goth-pop artist Ethel Cain. Lenfestey mentioned that they also prioritize partnering with local organizations, such as Vital Spaces, for events like Santa Fe’s Juneteenth celebration to better engage with the communities they serve.
Memorable Performances and Community Impact
Lensic 360’s inaugural major event was the Plaza Series with Shakey Graves, a show that immediately established them as a key player in Santa Fe’s music scene. Other standout moments included performances by Angelique Kidjo, Lila Downs at the Santa Fe Opera, and a sold-out show by Robert Plant and Alison Krauss. However, it’s the free community programming that Lenfestey finds most rewarding. He noted that the Railyard Series has played a pivotal role in revitalizing the area, and seeing families and friends come together for those events is incredibly fulfilling. “We’re proud that Friday nights at the Railyard have become the biggest night of the week,” he said.
Supporting Local Artists
Lenfestey highlighted the importance of supporting local talent, explain

ing that they aim to book local artists for nearly every event, from their Summer Scene series to the annual “Santa Fe Salutes” shows, which pay tribute to legendary musicians like David Bowie and Aretha Franklin. Many of these performances provide young, local artists with their first paid gig. Lenfestey also spoke about the opportunities Lensic 360 is creating for the next generation of artists, leveraging the Lensic PAC’s extensive arts education program—the largest in the state—which they plan to grow even further.
Future Vision for Lensic 360
Looking ahead, Lenfestey sees a clear need for a new amphitheater in Santa Fe to replace the long-closed Paolo Soleri Amphitheater. With the city’s concert scene growing and limited dates available at the Santa Fe Opera, a dedicated outdoor venue open from May through October would be a game-changer for the region. Lensic 360 also plans to continue bringing acts to other parts of northern New Mexico, with their recent success at Kit Carson Park in Taos—featuring Midland and Zach Top—offering a glimpse of what’s to come. “The response from both the community and the artists has been overwhelmingly positive,” Lenfestey remarked. This goes a long way toward their main goal – working collaboratively to bring more music to more venues across the state.
Closing Thoughts
From sold-out shows at venues like the Santa Fe Opera and The Bridge at Santa Fe Brewing to expanding their free series, Lensic 360 is making a lasting impact on the revitalization of New Mexico’s live music scene. As Lenfestey summed up, “We’re committed to keeping the energy high, fostering community through music, and expanding our reach to every corner of the state.”
