Initially, opportunities for dubstep DJs were scarce, with local preferences leaning towards house, hip-hop, and Latin music. To adapt, Lil Salsa expanded his musical repertoire, learning to mix various genres while maintaining his unique style. His initial gigs at friends’ house parties and local spots like Cheba Hut and Albuquerque Collective helped him learn to read the room and connect with diverse audiences.
For Lil Salsa, selecting music for his gigs is a meticulous process. He dedicates hours to finding songs that resonate with him and his audience, blending trending tracks with his unique style to create a fresh, engaging experience every time he performs. Lil Salsa’s career is dotted with memorable events. A standout moment was a Halloween event at Club 401, transformed into a spooky séance. He also shone at a New Year’s show at Electric Playhouse and a Rail Jam event at Ski Santa Fe. Opening for Tape B at Effex was another highlight, drawing one of his largest crowds to date.
Lil Salsa believes in the power of connection during performances. Whether it’s a friendly greeting or a shout-out, he ensures his presence is more than just musical; it’s about creating a communal experience.
