Ever need a good, cathartic cry? According to ABQLive’s own Kymb, that’s exactly what a Tyler Henry YouTube video session is for.
We recently sat down with the renowned clairvoyant and television personality, and the conversation was as fascinating and heartfelt as you’d expect. For the uninitiated, Tyler Henry is best known for his hit shows like E!’s Hollywood Medium and, more recently, his Netflix series Life After Death. But as he explained to us, his mission has always been about one thing: connection.

“My goal, really, throughout these readings has just been to kind of leave people with a sense of affirmation and connection,” Tyler said. He’s bringing that goal to the stage through his tour. So, what can attendees expect from an evening with Tyler Henry? He describes it as a two-part experience. “The first part, I explain a little bit about who I am, what I do, and then I give the whole background as to what got me there,” he shared. “And really, I just cover the three most important things that I think people need to kind of get out of the evening in order to contextualize the experience. And those three things, once they’re shared, we can jump right in, and I focus on readings.”
After that foundation is set, the real magic begins: the readings. And for Tyler, it’s just as spontaneous as it is for the audience. “I never know what’s gonna happen. It all happens in real time. And so in a certain sense, I sometimes feel like I’m in the audience, like watching it happen, kind of excited to see what will occur.” It’s a process that requires immense energy, and we were curious how someone who channels for a living manages to recharge. His answer? A lot of preparation and even more sleep.
“In the hours before I go on stage, I really minimize any interaction with people, any stimulus, loud noises, I try to reduce. I kind of stay under my blankets. I just kind of enter into this hermetic state,” he explained. Afterward, the recovery is intense: “I often sleep extensively. I will sometimes sleep 12 hours thereafter.”

This dedication to his craft was put to the ultimate test during his live Netflix show, Life From The Other Side, a 24-episode run he calls an “intense experiment.” “Going live was no joke, and there was no editing, there was no safety net if one is wrong or if someone’s forgetting or blanking on their family history,” he said. His goal was to demystify the process, showing that while being a medium is unique, “the fundamental ways in which I receive messages, I think, are universal.”
Of course, a topic like mediumship naturally attracts skeptics. Tyler’s approach to doubt isn’t defensive but embracing. “I embrace the diversity of belief,” he stated. “One of the greatest wonders of the world is what happens when we die. And I don’t encourage people to just take my word for it.” He compares the experience to art or falling in love—deeply personal and subjective. For those who receive a reading, it’s often about that one “unguessable, un-Googleable” detail that acts as a catalyst, encouraging us all to “think deeper and perhaps consider our role in the universe.”
Our conversation even drifted into the dream world, where Tyler is an experienced lucid dreamer—a skill he actually warns against for those seeking restful sleep. He sees dreams through a Jungian lens, often as symbolic messages from our unconscious. This tied into a broader discussion on consciousness, including astral projection. “I think it all kind of speaks to the conversation of discarnate intelligence,” he mused. “It just speaks to the fact that consciousness is complicated.”
For those inspired to connect with Tyler beyond his live show, he has a membership platform on Fireside where he hosts weekly private reading giveaways and virtual group readings for a global community. “People from all over the world get to connect, even with language barriers. We make it happen.”
As Kymb perfectly summed it up: “I’m so stoked that we got to talk.” We couldn’t agree more.
Tickets for his tour are available at TheTylerHenryMedium.com. It’s sure to be an evening of affirmation, connection, and maybe even a few cathartic tears.
