Our team recently visited Mariscos La Playa, a vibrant Mexican seafood restaurant located at 5210 San Mateo Blvd NE in Albuquerque.
Known for its authentic coastal Mexican flavors, the restaurant promised an exciting dining experience. The moment we stepped inside, the spacious and festive decor immediately set the tone. With bright colors and coastal Mexican charm, the large dining area felt welcoming and perfect for any group size.
Exploring The Menu
We kicked off the meal with Fresh Oysters on the Half Shell, paired with a specialty Mexican soy sauce. The oysters were briny and fresh, and the sauce added a unique savory twist that immediately impressed.
Next came the Camarones a la Menny, a dish of perfectly cooked shrimp bathed in a rich, aromatic sauce. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and like the oysters, the portion was generous enough to leave us feeling full.
For the entree they brought out the Discada Mar y Tierra, a generous mix of seafood and meats cooked with traditional Mexican spices. It was a hearty, flavorful dish, and the portion size left us completely satisfied.
For something light yet bold, we dug into the Ceviche de Atun—tender tuna marinated in citrus and spices. The dish was both refreshing and full of flavor, a perfect complement to the rich seafood dishes we had beforehand.
To finish, we enjoyed a classic Flan—smooth, creamy, and just the right amount of sweetness to end the meal on a high note.

When it came to drinks, we couldn’t resist the Monster Margarita, a bold, flavorful cocktail that was the size of two margaritas, making it a true fiesta in a glass. We also tried the Flamingo Cocktail, a fun and tropical drink with a vibrant pink hue that transported us to a beachside paradise. For those who enjoy Micheladas, Mariscos La Playa offers their own in-house Michelada Mix, available for purchase to recreate the delicious experience at home. In fact, one of our team members loved the food so much that they decided to order delivery from Mariscos La Playa for dinner later that week! The quality and flavor remained just as fantastic even after being delivered, proving that Mariscos La Playa’s offerings shine both in-house and at home.
All in all, the service throughout was exceptional. The staff were warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable, making us feel like family. The lively, energetic atmosphere, combined with such attentive service, made for an unforgettable experience. With generous portions, bold flavors, and a welcoming atmosphere, Mariscos La Playa exceeded all expectations.
